Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the party reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
